Unidad del Pueblo Canario (UPC), the broad front made up of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC), Izquierda Unida Canaria (IUC), Movimiento Sumar, Podemos, and the Partido Verde Canarias, announces the candidacy of Fernando Jiménez for the Senate for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, a proposal that represents a commitment to public services, the defense of social rights, and attention to the daily needs of the citizenry.

A village doctor for decades in the municipality of Teguise, Fernando Jiménez has developed his professional career through closeness and direct contact with his neighbors, accompanying patients and families and knowing firsthand the needs of a society that demands accessible and humane public healthcare. His vocation and commitment to care have marked a career linked to attending to people and defending their rights.

To this professional experience is added his involvement with associativism in Lanzarote, especially in the defense of consumer rights and fair prices. He currently serves as a councilor for NC-BC in the Teguise City Council, from where he continues to work in municipal public life.

Jiménez has decided to step forward as a candidate for the Senate due to his concern for the future of care and social protection, with special attention to the public pensions of Lanzarote's elderly. "I am concerned that the elderly can live with dignity after a lifetime of work, that our elders receive the care they need, and that future generations can count on public services that meet their needs," is the commitment that inspires his candidacy for the Senate.

Another of the priority axes of his proposal will be the defense of Lanzarote's public healthcare in the face of what UPC considers a threat to the future of the Insular Hospital. The intention to close this healthcare center, a benchmark in the care of the elderly and dependent, represents a concern that Jiménez wants to bring to the Senate to demand guarantees about its continuity and about the healthcare received by the island's population.

“Public healthcare cannot be understood solely as a matter of figures or management. We are talking about people, families, and professionals who sustain a system essential to our society. The Insular Hospital must be at the center of political priorities and cannot be relegated when we talk about the care of our elders,” defends the candidate.

For Fernando Jiménez, the unity of progressive Canarian forces around UPC constitutes an opportunity for Lanzarote to have strictly Canarian, left-wing representation committed to the interests of the social majority. A proposal that aims to place healthcare, pensions, care, the cost of living, and the defense of public services capable of guaranteeing rights and opportunities at the center of the political debate.

The left-wing front UPC aspires to articulate its own voice in state institutions, with the capacity to defend the singularities and needs of the Archipelago and to confront the inequalities affecting citizens.

“Canarias needs representatives who put people at the center of decisions, who defend those who depend on public healthcare and a dignified pension, and who do not allow the interests of the wealthiest minorities to be above the needs of the majority," is the political orientation that Fernando Jiménez wants to impart to this candidacy.
