The Minister of Health, Esther Monzón, reiterated this Wednesday, September 30, in the Health Commission of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, that the objective of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) is to "maintain the identity and care model of this center", specialized in geriatric care, as it is a pioneering and benchmark center in Spain in comprehensive care for the elderly on the island.
“We all know what the Hospital Insular means for Lanzarote. It has enormous care, historical, heritage, and sentimental value. For that same value, and for its heritage protection, any reform requires a careful study of its structural, functional, and regulatory conditions. And we want to make every decision knowing well what it implies,” assured the minister.
In this regard, she insisted that, in relation to the future of the Hospital Insular, “decisions will be made with technical criteria and thinking about people.” In this regard, she specified that the Master Plan for Health Infrastructure of the Lanzarote Health Area will be presented soon, which includes the future of the island's Hospital Insular.

The minister also explained that the Master Plan for Health Infrastructure of the Lanzarote Health Area will be applied to the entire island and will cover the entire network of health centers, including the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, the Hospital Insular, and local health centers and clinics. “Therefore, the future of the Hospital Insular is part of this overall vision, because what is decided for one hospital conditions the other and, with it, the health model of the entire island,” she stated.
This document will offer a technical analysis of all possible scenarios for specialized care, with the Hospital Insular being a main piece of Lanzarote's health network. All aspects included in this document will be institutionally validated, and from there, actions will be prioritized and action schedules will be set.
