The Canary Islands Institute of Equality has authorized the acquisition of premises in Arrecife to assist victims of sexual violence. This resolution is part of the project to create comprehensive care services that seek to assist victims of sexual assault and will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This was published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands this Thursday.
The chosen property, located on Blas Cabrera Topham Street, is "the place that best suits the needs established by the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the care of victims of sexual violence". In addition to being a space "in good condition", requiring less work and "rewarding speed".
This is the first 24-hour crisis center to open on the island to assist victims of sexual violence. It also joins the three properties acquired two weeks ago by the Canary Islands Institute of Equality for Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gran Canaria; and a fourth, acquired at the same time as the one in Lanzarote, for the island of La Palma.
This initiative is part of the Spain protects you against gender violence Plan, which aims to open 24-hour crisis centers to care for victims of sexual violence throughout the country. In addition, it is financed with Next Generation EU Funds, charged to the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.
