The Lanzarote Water Consortium is executing the project "Improvement of the drinking water and irrigation distribution network between El Cuchillo and Soo (eastern area of Lanzarote)", with a budget of 352,857.30 euros and an execution period of four months.
The main objective of this new investment, financed by the Water Consortium, is to improve the efficiency and reliability of the area's water infrastructure, both in the supply of drinking water to the towns of Soo and El Cuchillo, and in the expansion of the agricultural irrigation network included in the Project for the modernization and improvement of irrigation in the northeast of Lanzarote; a project that has 24.4 million euros in funding.
"We continue to dig trenches and fulfill our commitment to improve the irrigation network for the primary sector on the island of Lanzarote. In about three or four weeks, the work will be a reality that will benefit the farmers of Soo, Muñique, and the southern part of Tinajo," said the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, after the visit to the works he made together with the Minister of Water, Domingo Cejas.
This action will allow the interconnection of supply networks and guarantee access to irrigation water throughout the affected agricultural area, in the rural area of Teguise and Tinajo.
The Water Councillor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Domingo Cejas, points out that "the works are progressing at an advanced pace and will be completed before the planned execution period; and they will be put into service once all the connections are finished." These new infrastructures are part of the actions of the framework agreement signed with three business groups from Lanzarote under the umbrella of the water emergency. "We have already invested 1.4 million euros of the five million contemplated in the framework agreement for this year and the next," adds Cejas. The works consist of the installation of two parallel pipelines: one of 2,230 meters of 110-millimeter diameter PVC pipe for drinking water and another PVC pipe of 140 mm in diameter and of the same length for irrigation water.
The action is being carried out by the UTE Renovación Redes since October 20, 2025, after the signing of the stakeout verification report.
