Dolores Corujo warns about the possible closure of the Insular Hospital: "The PSOE will not allow it"

The PSOE has demanded that any decision that "empties" the Insular Hospital of its content be stopped and calls for transparency

Dolores Corujo

The Secretary General of the PSOE of Lanzarote and Member of Congress, María Dolores Corujo, assured this Tuesday that "the PSOE will not allow them to destroy the Insular Hospital," and warned that Lanzarote will not accept that "they play with the future of a center that is part of the island's health and emotional history".

"Lanzarote's society will prevent it. We all have a story at the Insular Hospital. An elderly person who was cared for with humanity, a family accompanied in a difficult moment, a professional team that has **sustained the impossible**. That's why we speak of a benchmark: because here there are not just walls, there are lives," Corujo stated.Corujo denounced that the debate about the Insular Hospital is being used to **normalize a setback**. "What is at stake is not a construction project or an internal reorganization: what is at stake is whether the Insular Hospital remains alive as it has been for Lanzarote or if its importance is gradually diminished until it becomes nothing," he stated.

“We warned about what CC and PP intended”

Corujo recalled that the PSOE had warned on several occasions that Coalición Canaria and the Popular Party intended to weaken the role of the Insular Hospital and dilute it in decisions that, in practice, open the door to the dismantling of a center essential for the island."The PSOE made it clear: they were going to try to strip it of functions, activity, and meaning. And today we see worrying signs in that direction. Lanzarote cannot afford to lose a resource that has been key for thousands of families," he stressedIn this regard, the PSOE of Lanzarote has highlighted the **initiatives defended** in recent years to protect and enhance the Insular Hospital, including proposals to publicly recognize the extraordinary work of its professionals and to defend its continuity as a center with its own healthcare role and consolidated trajectory

A hospital that is memory, care, and dignity

Corujo has insisted that the Insular Hospital is not understood solely from an administrative management perspective, but from what it represents: closeness, care, and dignity. "This hospital has been synonymous with attention to those who need it most. And when a place like this is touched, society responds," he stated.

The socialist general secretary also highlighted that the Insular Hospital has played a fundamental role in caring for the elderly and patients requiring specific care, "with professionals who have shown exemplary dedication, often without the recognition or resources they deserve."

Political and Social Demand

The PSOE has demanded that "any decision" that involves "emptying the Insular Hospital of its content" be stopped and calls for action with "transparency, listening to professionals, patients, families, and the entire citizenry."

“If CC and PP believe this will go unnoticed, they are mistaken. The PSOE will be where it needs to be, and so will Lanzarotean society. Because the Insular Hospital is not to be touched,” Corujo concluded
