The San Bartolomé City Council presented this Wednesday the program of events and actions that will take place during the month of March on the occasion of International Women's Day, an agenda that combines vindication, citizen participation, culture and training, and whose central axis is the event “Notas de Mujer” (Notes of a Woman), scheduled for next March 7.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, has highlighted that “March 8 is not just a marked date on the calendar, but a day to reaffirm our firm commitment to real and effective equality between women and men. From the City Council, we work throughout the year with stable projects and concrete actions that contribute to building a more just, more inclusive municipality with more opportunities for all.”

For her part, the Councillor for Equality, Mónica de León, has stressed that “we have designed a diverse program that combines spaces for meeting, training, reflection and culture, because we understand that equality is worked on from many areas: from education, from health, from community participation and also from art and emotion”.

Projects underway throughout the year

Beyond the specific events of 8M, the Equality Area keeps several consolidated projects active in the municipality. Among them stands out “Buchito de Café”, a weekly meeting space for female and male residents that during the month of March, will offer workshops, talks and activities in different areas of the municipality on the theme of equality, fostering coexistence, dialogue and community empowerment.

Likewise, the multidisciplinary and free care service continues, which offers professional accompaniment to women in the municipality, as well as the Meeting Place for Women, with bi-weekly programs designed to generate support networks, personal growth, and active participation.

In the educational field, affective-sexual content talks with a gender perspective are being developed in all courses of the Secondary Education Institutes of San Bartolomé and Playa Honda. This project, as Mónica de León explained, “is fundamental for working on the prevention of gender violence and promoting healthy relationships from an early age, providing students with tools to identify inequalities and build bonds based on respect”.

Special programming 8M

The commemorative program will start on Thursday, March 6, at 11:30 a.m., with a March through Calle Mayor, in which CEIP Playa Honda and the students from the IES of San Bartolomé and Playa Honda will participate. The march will conclude with an institutional act and the reading of the manifesto, reaffirming the municipality's commitment to equality.

On Friday, March 7, at 8:00 p.m., the central event “Notes of a Woman” will take place, a cultural proposal that seeks to make female talent visible and generate a space for reflection and recognition around the role of women in society. The City Council encourages citizens to participate in this gathering, conceived as a moment of unity and collective vindication.

On Saturday, March 8, the San Bartolomé City Council will be present at the island demonstration that will depart at 12:30 p.m. from Islas Canarias Park, in Arrecife, thus joining the joint demand at an island level.

“March 8 is an opportunity to raise our voice, but also to continue working 365 days a year,” affirmed Mayor Isidro Pérez. “We invite all citizens to participate in the scheduled events and to be an active part of this collective commitment.”

For her part, Mónica de León concluded by pointing out that “every activity, every project and every encounter adds up. Equality is not just a goal, it is a path we walk together, and in San Bartolomé we are determined to keep moving forward without taking a step back.”

The City Council thus reaffirms its commitment to public policies that promote equality of opportunities and the elimination of any form of discrimination, consolidating San Bartolomé as a municipality committed to the rights of women and the construction of a more equitable society.
