"The budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for 2021 include, thanks to Ciudadanos, an item to finance the future Conference Center of Lanzarote.” This was stated by the Secretary of Communication of the orange formation in the Islands, David Rodríguez, after the forecasts of expenses and income managed by the Canarian Government for next year were approved this Thursday in the Parliament of the Canary Islands.
David Rodríguez has stated that "it was an amendment presented by Cs that caused the formations that signed the flower pact to remember this work, which has been paralyzed for more than a decade", since this infrastructure did not appear in the Draft Budget Law of the Autonomous Community for 2021 prepared by the Canarian Government.
The head of Communication of Cs in the Canary Islands has expressed his satisfaction for the inclusion of this item in the accounts of the Autonomous Community for 2021, since "it represents a boost to a project that has been waiting for more than a decade for the first stone to be laid", and has thanked the work done by the two regional deputies of Cs, Vidina Espino and Ricardo Fernández de la Puente, for its achievement.
In this sense, he recalled that, while in other islands auditoriums or other types of infrastructure have been enabled, "in Lanzarote we still do not have cultural equipment for large events, since the existing public spaces do not have sufficient capacity."
David Rodríguez has lamented that the parties that signed the "flower pact" and support the Government of the Canary Islands "have not accepted the amendment as presented by Cs, with a budget allocation to start the execution of the project amounting to 2,700,000 euros." In the end, he says that the demands introduced by them so that the proposal of the orange formation could go ahead have cut the amount to 200,000 euros.
In his opinion, although this amount is not what Cs requested, "the important thing is that with the allocated amount the project is launched", since in the 2019 budget five million were included for this infrastructure, within the strategic plan of subsidies of the Ministry of Tourism, which covers from 2019 to 2021, and "not a single stone has been moved yet".
As David Rodríguez has stressed, the objective of Cs is "to respond to a demand from Lanzarote whose estimated cost is about 40 million euros and that will have a positive impact on the island's economy."
