The Independent and Civil Servants Union (CSIF) denounces the worrying situation in the municipality of Haría, where the lack of negotiation by the City Council with the Local Police is causing several large-scale celebrations to take place without the presence of municipal agents, compromising the safety of both residents and visitors.
This situation, explains the union, already occurred during the Canary Islands Day Festival and the San Juan Festival, and is happening again during the current Carmen de Arrieta Festival. In all these events, the absence of the Local Police has forced security to fall, practically exclusively, on private security personnel, a circumstance that, in CSIF's opinion, cannot replace the specific functions that correspond to police forces.
CSIF regrets that the City Council has not been able to reach an agreement to organize the extraordinary services necessary to cover these types of events. It is incomprehensible to the union that, instead of seeking solutions through dialogue, the decision has been made to convey to public opinion a discourse that blames the agents for a situation whose management corresponds exclusively to the Administration.
The union recalls that the planning of security arrangements for patron saint festivals is an obligation of the City Council. And, for them, not guaranteeing the presence of the Local Police at events with a significant concentration of people means assuming an unnecessary risk that could have consequences for public safety and the response capacity in the event of any incident.
Therefore, CSIF demands that the Haría City Council stop evading its responsibilities, immediately resume negotiations with the representation of public employees, and adopt the necessary measures to ensure that the municipality's next events have a security arrangement commensurate with the importance and attendance of these celebrations. They consider that the safety of citizens must be above any management conflict.
