The plenary session of the Tías City Council approved this Tuesday the proposal presented by the Canary Coalition Group, whose spokesperson is Amado Vizcaíno, to launch the “Tías Without Barriers” plan, an initiative that takes a decisive step towards universal accessibility in the municipality.

The motion calls for the immediate creation of a Municipal Plan for Universal Accessibility with its own budget, accompanied by a complete and detailed diagnosis of all existing barriers in Tías, which must be finalized within a maximum of four months.

Based on this analysis, the City Council must develop a schedule of actions that prioritizes the most urgent interventions and areas with the highest citizen traffic, with special attention to spaces used by the elderly and residents with reduced mobility. A monitoring committee will also be established, involving municipal representatives, technical staff, disability associations, and neighborhood groups, thus ensuring continuous and transparent oversight of the plan's progress.

The motion also promotes the implementation of initiatives that encourage inclusive leisure and sports, enabling all residents to participate in municipal activities, as well as the organization of training programs and awareness campaigns to reinforce respect, empathy, and the importance of accessibility in daily life.

During the plenary session, the spokesperson for Coalición Canaria, Amado Vizcaíno, thanked the support received and highlighted the urgency of acting on small, everyday barriers—such as non-adapted pedestrian crossings or inaccessible sidewalks—and of fostering respect for parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility.

In addition, he insisted that the sports activities and hiking routes of the City Council should be opened, whenever possible, to the participation of people with disabilities, recalling his recent collaboration with an association that managed to reach the heart of the Cueva de los Verdes when many considered it impossible."Accessibility can no longer be just an idea on paper: it is a daily urgency," Vizcaíno stated
