The spokesman for Ciudadanos (Cs) in the City Council of San Bartolomé, Javier Lemes, has denounced “the lamentable state of neglect in which the Casa Ajei is found”, a historical building from the 18th century, from the same era as the Casa Mayor Guerra, which currently houses temporary exhibitions, cultural events and also municipal offices.
In this regard, Lemes explained that “it can be seen without any difficulty that the situation of this space is precarious, since you can see the lack of paint, the existence of windows with broken glass, misaligned doors and rotten wood, as well as the lack of grooming of the gardens and transit areas”.
Therefore, and because “it is essential to preserve the buildings and spaces that are part of the identity of the municipality”, the spokesman for Ciudadanos has indicated that he is studying presenting a proposal "to include a new area within the City Council for maintenance and heritage preservation, which will be endowed with an annual economic item.”
“There is a lot of heritage in our municipality that is not being treated as it deserves”, said Lemes, who gave as an example “the precariousness of the mills, the Maretas de Guatisea, the Casa de los Carrasco or the old cinema”. "It is the responsibility of the municipal government to articulate measures aimed at its conservation and maintenance”, he concluded.
