Coalición Canaria Yaiza denounces the economic and financial management of the Town Hall during the 2021 financial year after learning of the audit report of the Canary Islands Court of Auditors, which questions the approval of up to 20 agreements contrary to the objections of the Comptroller's Office, with a total amount that exceeds 800,000 euros.
The Canarian nationalist party states that the report "evidences the opaque and lax management of the mayor, Óscar Noda, and criticizes that the governing group did not adapt its internal control mechanisms to what is required by Law," according to the municipal spokesperson for CC, Emilio Machín.
In this sense, the report reflects an obsolete economic-financial control model that "reduces the preventive capacity of the Intervention department." It also warns that the City Council "lacks adequate personnel and procedures to verify public investments, which compromises transparency in the contracting of works and services."
Another aspect pointed out is the absence of the Annual Financial Control Plan, a basic tool to guarantee the correct management of public funds. "This omission," according to CC Yaiza, "reflects the lack of commitment of the government group to accountability and the proper use of everyone's money."
Coalición Canaria also criticizes "the attitude of Mayor Óscar Noda, who simultaneously holds the position of highest municipal authority and Finance Councilor, for not presenting allegations to the report of the Court of Auditors." For Emilio Machín, this fact constitutes a "worrying lack of will to be accountable and reinforces the idea that the economic management of the municipality lacks transparency."
CC Yaiza demands that the municipal government group take measures to implement effective internal control mechanisms, strengthen transparency, and guarantee security in public spending, as required by law. "It is necessary to correct these deficiencies as soon as possible to avoid repeating practices that undermine the public's trust in their institutions," Machín concludes.
