The president of the Canarian Coalition (CC), José Torres Stinga, has sent letters to the candidates of the PSOE and PP, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Mariano Rajoy, respectively, with the aim that "in future debates or interventions by both candidates they remember that the Canary Islands also exist and that many of the issues they allude to in their interventions directly affect our community".

For the CC leader, it is "surprising" that during the debate last Monday none of these two candidates mentioned the Canary Islands at any time, "and that it was almost impossible to stop talking about our land, since issues such as immigration or forest fires came up".

In a statement, Torres Stinga recalls that if there is an autonomous community in Spain that has suffered the drama of immigration for several years, "that is the Canary Islands, but when talking about forest fires they did not even remember that Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Palma were seriously affected by several fires last summer. They did not talk about the Canary Islands but they did name other autonomous communities", he adds.

Stinga assures that he simply asks them to observe the need to include the Canary Islands in one of their interventions in the next debate, "because we suffer more than any other territory a human drama that must be considered, above any other, a matter of State. The Canarians, whatever their political affinity, will thank you", concludes Torres Stinga in the letters sent to both candidates.
