CC San Bartolomé asks the city council to recover the Luis Ramírez Scholarship for its students

The nationalists ask the municipal government to follow the example of Teguise, which has recovered these grants for the 2026-2027 academic year after more than eight years without being called.

Coalición Canaria (CC) San Bartolomé demands that the City Council promote the necessary steps to recover the Luis Ramírez Scholarship for the municipality's students and prevent young people and their families from losing an opportunity for financial support to continue their education.

The nationalist party believes that the recovery of these grants by the Teguise City Council, which has re-advertised them for the 2026-2027 academic year after more than eight years without doing so, "demonstrates that it is possible to work to put these resources back at the service of students." Therefore, it asks the municipal government of San Bartolomé to take the initiative and contact the responsible entity to find out the necessary procedures.

The local secretary of Coalición Canaria, Corín Machín, emphasizes that "the opportunities for our young people should not depend on where they live within Lanzarote. If Teguise has worked to recover these scholarships, San Bartolomé must also do everything in its power so that its students can access them."

Machín believes that the City Council must maintain an "active attitude" in seeking resources that contribute to alleviating the financial burden on families, especially when their children have to travel outside the island to study. "Tuition, accommodation, transportation, materials, and living expenses represent a significant expense. We cannot consider any resource that could help our neighbors lost without first having made the necessary arrangements," she adds.

For his part, the councilor of Coalición Canaria in San Bartolomé, Eduardo Díaz, criticizes the "lack of initiative of the socialist government" and demands that it "act to determine how to recover these grants for the municipality."

"We cannot talk about equal opportunities while letting resources that can help our students and their families pass by. Teguise has taken a step to recover these scholarships, and what we ask is that San Bartolomé also do its job and find a way to make them available to its young people again," says Díaz.

The Luis Ramírez Scholarships originate from the legacy of the philanthropist from Lanzarote of the same name, who stipulated that part of his assets be allocated, through the Congregation of the Salesian Fathers, to facilitate the studies of young people from families with fewer resources in Lanzarote. The historical distribution of these grants includes different municipalities on the island, including San Bartolomé.

Coalición Canaria also recalls that these scholarships remained uncalled for years and that, according to the party, "during previous legislatures in which PSOE and CC jointly governed in San Bartolomé, efforts were made to recover them and make them available to students again."

“We are concerned that a resource that took so much effort to recover may be forgotten again. The City Council must contact the responsible entity, clarify the procedure to be followed, and publicize the grants so that students who meet the requirements have the opportunity to apply for them,” points out Eduardo Díaz.

Therefore, CC urges the municipal government to initiate the appropriate procedures, determine the possibilities of recovering the aid corresponding to San Bartolomé, and provide information to families on the steps they must follow to access it.

“The important thing is that our young people have more opportunities to continue their education and that families know that they have all available resources. We hope that the City Council acts and that San Bartolomé does not fall behind,” concludes the councilor.
