Coalición Canaria in the Yaiza City Council, through its spokesperson Emilio Machín, denounces the "lack of updating of the municipal ordinances, which have not been reviewed since 1997 and remain written in the old currency of pesetas."
This circumstance, they assure, "evidences a totally obsolete regulatory framework that does not respond to the current needs of the municipality and hinders the efficient management of local taxes, as stated in the current regulations themselves."
The nationalist formation emphasizes that "the lack of municipal personnel further aggravates the problem, since it prevents exercising adequate control over the collection of fees, and ends up causing a significant loss of income for the Yaiza City Council." The group maintains that "this has a direct impact on the reduction of available resources to improve public services and maintain the Papagayo Natural Park and other emblematic areas of the municipality, whose value is unquestionable for both residents and visitors."
For Emilio Machín, “it is unacceptable that, after almost three decades, the government team led by Óscar Noda continues without having a plan or efficient management to update the fiscal ordinances, which demonstrates a clear lack of interest in guaranteeing minimum income that can be reverted to the improvement of our environment and the quality of life of our neighbors. If we do not reinforce the municipal staff and urgently address the updating of the legal texts, we will continue without taking advantage of the economic opportunities that would allow us to maintain and preserve our natural spaces.”
Coalición Canaria demands an "immediate action by Óscar Noda and his team, claiming both the updating of the ordinances and the reinforcement of the human resources of the City Council, essential aspects for a modern and efficient management that allows the municipality to obtain greater income and promote sustainable development in Yaiza."
