The candidate of Coalición Canaria to the City Council of San Bartolomé and spokesperson of the nationalist formation in the Consistory, David Rocío, demands the Consistory the "immediate removal of the wind turbines of Montaña Mina, whose deterioration and bad condition have already been evaluated in reports that determine their dangerousness".
“It is unacceptable that time continues to pass and that after several budgets, there is no item in the Government of the Canary Islands, nor in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, much less in the City Council of San Bartolomé, for the dismantling of infrastructures that not only disfigure the landscape but also put the safety of operators and hikers at risk”, says Rocío, regretting that “for the PSOE the reports are only ornaments that they use for their electoral promises and then they are kept in the drawer”.
One more act with which, in the opinion of the nationalist mayor, “the lack of management capacity of the mayor of San Bartolomé and his government group and their submission to their party leaders” continues to be demonstrated.
"It must be remembered that the Montaña Mina windmills were put into service in 1992; windmills that, therefore, are 31 years old and due to their lack of maintenance, offer a state of complete abandonment", criticize from CC.
In 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands issued a letter urging that urgent measures be taken to guarantee safety and, a year later, on May 12, 2019, the Mercantile Court No. 1 of Las Palmas declared the conclusion of the competition for wind farms in the Canary Islands.
“The City Council announced in 2021 the removal of the windmills and gave the company three months to proceed with their dismantling. But everything remains the same and the mayor continues to dedicate himself, as in all important issues for the municipality, to taking photos, promising that he will do what he will never do or to kicking the ball out, declaring, as is the case, that they be removed by the Government of the Canary Islands”, informs Rocío.
"However, years after the promises and having approved several budgets in the Government of the Canary Islands, Cabildo of Lanzarote or City Council of San Bartolomé none incorporates an item for its removal", concludes the CC candidate.
