Coalición Canaria has urged the President of the Government of the State, Pedro Sánchez, to save “two hours of his vacation if his stay is confirmed as usual at the Palacio de La Mareta, in Lanzarote, to address the migratory emergency” in the islands.
Specifically, the national secretary of Organization of Coalición Canaria, David Toledo, has focused on the situation of the more than 5,600 unaccompanied children under the tutelage of the Government of the Canary Islands.
Toledo pointed out that the Government of the Canary Islands “has done the task not only by working on a regulatory proposal that contemplates the co-responsibility of all territories in the care of unaccompanied minors who arrive in the archipelago, but also by sitting down with political forces in the Courts and in the Canary Islands, working within the framework of the Canary Islands Immigration Pact, and with third sector entities and international organizations.”
In this context, the nationalist leader pointed out that President Sánchez “has a unique opportunity to see the scope of the humanitarian emergency on the islands in situ and -he stressed- it would not be understood that in a critical situation such as the current one, with an overflowing network of resources and the professionals and volunteers who work on the front line tired, the president turns his back on a situation that is experienced on the same island where he will enjoy his vacations or on the rest of the islands, especially in El Hierro, which last year has endured the greatest migratory pressure.”
The national secretary of Organization stated that it would be “unforgivable” for President Sánchez to “enjoy a vacation oblivious to the reality that is experienced daily on the Canary coasts and that the Canary people are responding to with responsibility and solidarity, the same that Pedro Sánchez should show.”
