The Arrecife City Council will hold a new session of the Municipal Council for Cultural Heritage this Thursday, in which two relevant actions for the conservation of the architectural heritage of the capital of Lanzarote will be submitted for consideration, such as the restoration of the facades of the Casa Amarilla - former headquarters of the Cabildo - and the renovation of the garage door of the Casa Parroquial de San Ginés.

The Councilor for the Technical Office, Urban Planning and Urban Discipline, Maciot Cabrera, states that "these are necessary interventions, respectful of the history and the environment of the city," in reference to both projects. "With these actions we continue to move forward to protect and conserve the heritage that defines the identity of Arrecife," he emphasizes.

The Casa Amarilla, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 2004, will be the object of an intervention project promoted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote that contemplates the conservation of the ceramic tiles on its facades.

The technical study presented includes actions such as the repair of walls, elimination of humidity, restoration of tiling, repair of decorative ornaments and improvements in the clock room, all under criteria of minimal intervention and maximum reversibility, in accordance with the Law of Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands.

Parish of San Ginés

Regarding the Parish of San Ginés, also cataloged as BIC, the request for authorization to replace the current wooden garage door with a similar one with electric opening will be addressed. The intervention, which has the favorable report of the Lanzarote Cabildo, is part of the conservation actions allowed and does not affect the heritage value of the complex.

Both proposals comply with current regulations and have been prepared with the required technical support, complying with the consultation and inter-administrative authorization procedures provided for.

The Municipal Council for Cultural Heritage, established in December 2023, acts as a key advisory body in the protection and restoration of local heritage. It is made up of representatives from the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the CICOP, the College of Architects and municipal technicians.

"This council not only allows each intervention to be evaluated with technical rigor, but also reinforces the institutional commitment to the conservation of the cultural and historical heritage of Arrecife," concludes Maciot Cabrera.
