Caraballo (NC) accuses Clavijo of "benefiting speculators" without tackling the housing problem

The deputy of Nueva Canarias for Lanzarote defends that the president's speech "avoided clearly addressing the structural problems that Canarian society is going through"

The deputy of Nueva Canarias–Bloque Canarista (NC–BC) for Lanzarote, Yoné Caraballo, has made a critical assessment of the speech delivered by the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, during the Debate on Canarian Nationality, assuring that “it confirms the model of Coalición Canaria: leading the islands towards the minimum of public services”.

Caraballo pointed out that the president's speech "avoided clearly addressing the structural problems that Canarian society is facing". In this regard, he denounced that the model promoted by Coalición Canaria "is progressively weakening public services", citing the health situation as an example.

“The deterioration of public healthcare is evident. In these three years of mandate, private insurance policies have increased, which reflects how more and more citizens are forced to seek alternatives given the difficulties of the public system,” affirmed the deputy.

Likewise, the parliamentarian regretted that the president does not dedicate even a single reference to stopping the current model of tourism development which, in his opinion, is causing increasing overcrowding in the archipelago. “There were no words to address the impact of uncontrolled tourism growth that is straining the territory, services, and quality of life of the Canarian population,” he indicated.

In housing matters, Caraballo described the regional Executive's policies as “erratic”. According to the deputy, the announced measures “are not solving the real problem of access to housing and, in many cases, end up benefiting large owners and speculators”.

The deputy also criticized the autonomous Government's fiscal policy, whom he accused of “benefiting the richest while families continue to wait for real measures”. In this regard, he recalled that the Executive has promoted tax cuts that primarily favor the highest incomes while it continues to fail to fulfill one of its most repeated electoral promises: to lower the IGIC from 7 to 5 percent.

On the other hand, the deputy for Lanzarote demanded that the autonomous Government promote anti-crisis measures given the current inflationary context. Among them, he demanded that the 20-cent per liter fuel subsidy be immediately incorporated in Lanzarote.

“It is incomprehensible that, at a time of price increases that especially affects the non-capital islands, Lanzarote still does not have this support measure. The Government must act urgently to alleviate the economic burden borne by families and workers,” concluded Caraballo.
