Canary Islands promotes local products under the slogan "Consume local or we're going to shit"

This "disruptive" campaign, conceived and starring the theater company Abubukaka, highlights the harsh reality faced by farmers, ranchers, fishermen, and professionals in the agri-food industry

"Consume local or we're going to shit" is the Canary Islands Government's campaign to raise awareness among the population and generate debate about the importance of buying local products because, otherwise, the island's producers will abandon their businesses due to the lack of support from the population.

This "disruptive" campaign, conceived and starring the theater company Abubukaka, highlights the harsh reality faced by farmers, ranchers, fishermen, and professionals in the agri-food industry if citizens do not support Canarian products, as detailed this Thursday at a press conference by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero.

This announcement, which will be broadcast from tomorrow on the social networks of Abubukaka and the public company Rural Environment Management of the Canary Islands, aims, according to the Minister, to show that the primary sector is fundamental to the economy and identity.

"With this campaign, we promote a reflection on the consumption decisions we make every day and remind that betting on local products is betting on our land, our people, and our future," he stated.

Abubukaka has thanked the Government for respecting their proposal and for giving them "carte blanche to do something crazy" with this proposal, which they have described as "groundbreaking."

This promotional action narrates how local producers embark on a symbolic journey “to shit”, representing the abandonment of their businesses due to the lack of support from the population.

To this end, signs and indications are presented such as “turn right on the street it's cheaper in a large store” or “take the third exit at the roundabout the mountain is dirty, people no longer plant anything.”

Narvay Quintero has taken the opportunity to talk about the International Food and Beverage Quality Fair ‘Salón Gourmets’, which will take place in Madrid from April 7 to 10, within the initiatives to promote local products of the Executive.

The Canary Islands will have a stand of 510 square meters in which more than one hundred Canarian companies will participate in order to make visible the quality and uniqueness of Canarian products at the national and international level, he detailed.
