Coalición Canaria Lanzarote has expressed its satisfaction after the Ministry of the Interior issued a report at the request of the president of the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce and representative of the Cabildo on the Board of Directors of port activity, José Valle. Said report was unfavorable due to the allegations presented by the National Police Station of Arrecife, which warned of the inconvenience of locating a low-cost gas station in front of its premises. This report represents a decisive endorsement for the educational project promoted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote on the Naos plot to move forward.
The President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasized that "he is pleased that the doors are opening to the concession request submitted by the Island Institution, because it is a decisive step for a project of public interest to see the light sooner rather than later." Betancort recalled that the proposal contemplates the creation of a training center linked to the blue economy, with university and professional degrees adapted to the needs of the island, and highlighted that "this is a strategic commitment to diversify the local economy, strengthen the training offer, and generate real opportunities for our youth."
Coalición Canaria also recalls "that it was after this organization presented a motion for debate in the Arrecife City Council that the mayor, Yonathan de León, who until then had been pleased with a new low-cost gas station project at that location, found himself in the position of opting for the project of public interest proposed by the Cabildo of Lanzarote."
In this regard, the general secretary of the Canarian Coalition on the island, Pedro San Ginés, stated that "it is great news that a public initiative of great educational and strategic value for the island prevails over a private project. Lanzarote cannot continue to lose educational and economic opportunities due to decisions that prioritize private benefits over the common good."
The secretary of the local committee of Arrecife, Echedey Eugenio, also valued this step, stating that "the City Council, as a member of the Board of Directors, must defend the public and educational interests of our city. We have an obligation to support an initiative that generates opportunities for our young people and strengthens the role of the capital in the educational and business fields."
Coalición Canaria celebrates that, with this unfavorable report from the Ministry of the Interior regarding the gas station, the path is cleared for Lanzarote to have a benchmark training space in the Naos area.
