The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, through its Insular Governing Council held this Monday, August 3, definitively approved the first public call for competitive subsidies aimed at the maintenance, protection, conservation, restoration, consolidation, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of private immovable cultural heritage assets on both islands. This first edition of 2026 starts with an initial budget allocation amounting to 200,000 euros.
In this regard, the president of the Cabildo and councilor for Historical Heritage, Oswaldo Betancort, stated that "protecting our legacy is protecting the identity of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. This new framework allows us to support owners who assume the responsibility of conserving buildings that are part of our history and our cultural landscape." He added that "the recovery of architectural heritage constitutes an investment in identity, memory, and future, as each intervention contributes to preserving a unique legacy and strengthening the cultural appeal of our islands."
This initiative by the island corporation activates the seven lines of financing included in the bases formally approved on June 8 in the Official Provincial Gazette. The subsidies will cover everything from the exclusive drafting of intervention technical projects to the material execution of works on facades and roofs, the recovery of cisterns, maretas, alcogidas, or other elements of traditional hydraulic heritage, as well as actions on buildings located within protected Historical Complexes.
Beneficiaries, amounts, and application deadlines
The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa states that all natural or private legal persons, communities of owners or property, who hold ownership or real rights over cataloged properties, declared Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC), or that possess heritage values accredited by the Historical Heritage Service, may benefit from this line of aid. Public administrations, foundations, and entities of a civil or religious nature are expressly excluded from this call.
Likewise, the grants will cover up to a maximum of 50% of the total cost of the requested intervention, with a maximum limit of 50,000 euros per beneficiary and property. Furthermore, only a single grant will be awarded per applicant and property within this edition.
The deadline for submitting applications and the required technical documentation will be one month, starting from the day after the official publication of the extract of this call for applications in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, through the Corporation's Electronic Registry. The actions eligible for the aid must be future projects or not completed before the submission date, and the awardees will have a maximum of 18 months to carry out the work in accordance with the authorized project.
