The PSOE has achieved this Wednesday in the Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote that the Plenary of the Corporation approve its proposal to urge the Government of the Canary Islands to create a single window for attention to women victims of gender violence. The initiative proposes establishing a single entry point to the public system from which to access the protection, information, assessment, and support resources available in the Canary Islands.
The spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Ariagona González, has highlighted that the approval of the motion represents "an important step towards building a more humane, agile, and coordinated institutional response to sexist violence".
"A woman who has taken the difficult step of asking for help cannot find herself in an administrative labyrinth or be forced to repeat the violence she has suffered over and over again to access the resources she needs," González stated.
The socialist representative explained that the Canary Islands have numerous attention and protection services in which the regional government, the island councils, the town councils, the health system, the security forces, the Administration of Justice, and specialized equality departments are involved. However, the lack of coordination between these resources causes that, on too many occasions, the responsibility of figuring out which body to turn to falls on the victims themselves.
"Coordination is an obligation of the administrations, not a burden that we should transfer to women. It is the public services that must organize themselves around the victim and guarantee her a clear pathway throughout the entire process," affirmed Ariagona González.
The approved motion calls for each woman to have, from her first contact with any administration or specialized resource, a reference professional responsible for coordinating her care, facilitating her access to different services, and avoiding the unnecessary repetition of her story.
It also proposes implementing a single coordination system for attention and protection resources, especially accommodation, which allows for real-time knowledge of the availability of places, the application of homogeneous priority criteria, and the streamlining of access to the most appropriate alternative for each woman.
Likewise, the agreement proposes to develop a single care file, with full guarantees of confidentiality and data protection, which can be consulted by authorized services and facilitates coordination between the social, health, police, judicial, and equality spheres.
Ariagona González stressed that gender violence requires "institutions capable of acting jointly and accompanying each woman throughout her process, without interruptions, delays, or new situations of wear and tear."
"The approval of this initiative must now translate into concrete measures by the Government of the Canary Islands. We are talking about improving the protection of women and ensuring that all public resources function as a true integral system," concluded the spokesperson for the socialist group.
