The socialist deputy for Lanzarote and La Graciosa and municipal spokesperson in Teguise, Marcos Bergaz, valued this Tuesday the award of the works for the new drinking water supply pipeline for La Graciosa and expressed his wish that there be no “setbacks” that delay the formalization of the contract and the start of an action that he considered fundamental to guarantee the island's supply.
The action was awarded by the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands for an amount of 3,432,095.37 euros, without IGIC, to the UTE formed by Global Omnium Construcción, S.A., Pérez Moreno, S.A.U. and Rover Maritime, S.L., whose offer obtained the best valuation in the procedure.
The award resolution, signed by the minister of the area, Manuel Miranda, was published on August 15 on the Contractor's Profile. The contract is now pending its formalization, once the period for the presentation of a possible special appeal in contracting matters concludes.
Once formalized, the contract will have an execution period of 12 months, which will begin to count from the day after the receipt of the site survey report.
Bergaz considered that the award represents progress in a long-demanded action, the development of which he has been following along with other investments planned for Lanzarote, Teguise and La Graciosa.
“It is good news that this much-needed work for La Graciosa has been awarded and that we are taking a step forward to make a reality of an important infrastructure to guarantee the drinking water supply of the island,” said Bergaz.
The socialist parliamentarian positively valued that the project reaches this new phase and expressed his wish that the pending procedures be completed to enable the start of the work.
“Now we wish that there are no setbacks, that the contract is formalized and that what is planned is fulfilled, especially the execution deadlines, as the residents of La Graciosa have been waiting for this infrastructure for a long time. We will continue to keep a close eye on the next steps,” he stated.
An infrastructure with three decades of service
The award will allow progress on a new pipeline that connects Lanzarote with La Graciosa, as the current one, installed between 1996 and 1997, presents difficulties in meeting demand during periods of highest occupancy. Added to this are the accumulated breaks after almost three decades of service.
The submarine section has registered in recent years a ratio of 6.99 breakdowns per kilometer per year, a figure that highlights the wear and tear of an essential infrastructure for guaranteeing the island's supply.
The project includes the installation of approximately 1,220 meters of submarine pipeline between Lanzarote and La Graciosa and nearly 1,100 meters of terrestrial pipelines in the connection areas.
