A few hours after learning that the Popular Party will create a management committee in Lanzarote, Ástrid Pérez has sent a voice message to the affiliates and party colleagues to say goodbye to the island leadership. In said audio, Pérez expresses her gratitude after more than two decades on the front lines of the party in Lanzarote:
“It has been a pleasure, it has been a pleasure to work with each and every one of you. I wish you all the best. It has been 18 years that I have been president and 5 as general secretary, it has been 23 super intense, super exciting years.”
In her message, the popular leader also highlighted the support received from the militancy throughout her political career and institutional responsibilities: “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to have been mayor of Arrecife, for being vice-president of the Cabildo... Thank you for the support you have given me congress after congress.”
Despite the intervention of the regional body, Pérez has sent a message of unity and encouragement for the upcoming electoral challenges, urging the bases to maintain the strength of the party's acronym on the island: “Let's keep going, we are going to sweep, the only objective is for the Popular Party of Lanzarote to win the elections, because they are not going to weaken us, on the contrary, we are going to come out much stronger. Go for it! Good luck to everyone. A big hug!.”
Meanwhile, the mystery remains as to who will be the person appointed by the regional leadership to head the management committee and its members. Among the names that are being strongly considered are Pancho Hernández and the current insular general secretary, María Jesús Tovar. It will be on Wednesday, September 27, when it is clarified.
