Astrid Pérez highlights INDISPAL's role in defending the rights of people with disabilities.

The President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands met this Wednesday with the Palmera Platform for Comprehensive Disability Care, an island reference that since 2002 has improved the quality of life of more than 5,500 people and their families.

The President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, visited La Palma this Wednesday to learn about the work of the Palmera Platform for Comprehensive Care for Disability (INDISPAL), an island reference entity for its defense of the rights of people with disabilities and their families. This initiative is part of the visits that the president makes to social entities under the motto "Listen to Advance."

During the meeting, Pérez emphasized that "this visit reaffirms the Parliament's commitment to raise awareness among the population and highlight the work this association does with equality, inclusion, and the rights of people with disabilities, recognizing the inspiring role they play in La Palma."

The president of INDISPAL, Omaira Álvarez Guerra, explained to the president of the Canarian Chamber the need to continue improving the quality of life of people with disabilities, reinforce the provision of services and working conditions.

Founded in 2002, INDISPAL currently brings together 11 local entities – including Niños Especiales de La Palma (NEP), which holds the presidency, and Fundación Isonorte, in the vice presidency. Thanks to its work, more than 5,500 people have benefited from its projects and 112 have achieved their integration into the labor market.

INDISPAL was awarded the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands in 2011 and recently certified with the ISO 900 Quality Seal. 

Astrid Pérez emphasized that "the work of INDISPAL is an example of social collaboration and innovation; not in vain, its programs demonstrate that inclusion is a shared path, which improves lives and strengthens the entire Canarian society."
