The until now president of the Popular Party of Lanzarote, Ástrid Pérez, has deleted this Tuesday from her X account a video addressed to her party colleagues that was recorded from her office in the Presidency of the Parliament of the Canary Islands.
The one who was until this Wednesday the insular president of the popular party for 23 years has deleted the recording and re-uploaded it with the background blurred after the opposition has reproached the use of the institutional office to issue partisan messages.
"That office in the Parliament of the Canary Islands belongs to the citizens of the Canary Islands, not to the PP," criticized the organization secretary of the PSOE of the Canary Islands and also parliamentarian Nira Fierro. "The institutions are not yours," she highlighted in the same publication.
In the video, later republished with the background blurred, Ástrid Pérez made a brief compilation of her political career at the head of the PP of Lanzarote, her time as mayor of Arrecife, and also as vice president of the Cabildo.
"It's time to change course," Pérez stated in the recording from the institutional office. "Thanks to the Popular Party, I have been mayor of my city of Arrecife, I have been vice president of the Cabildo, president of the Parliament and of the European Regional Parliaments," she continued. In the publication, she assured that she was "full of gratitude" to her party.

An extraordinary meeting to decide the future of the PP on the island
On Wednesday afternoon, the Governing Board and the Regional Executive Committee will meet extraordinarily to decide the fate of the Popular Party in Lanzarote. The only item on the agenda for this meeting is to appoint a transitional group to be responsible for guiding the destiny of the political party on the island after years of crisis and internal disagreements.
So far, only two names are resonating as candidates to chair the caretaker committee of the Popular Party on the island. One of them, the former mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, who was seen meeting at Lanzarote Airport with the Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, and the Secretary General of the Popular Party in the Canary Islands, Poli Suárez.
In this way, Ástrid Pérez will cease to be the president of the party on the island, a position she took up in December 2008 after winning the battle against the officialist sector of José Manuel Soria.
