The Arrecife City Council and the Department of Public Works of the Cabildo de Lanzarote have planned the new roundabout in the industrial area of Lloret to improve access on the LZ101, towards the capital of Lanzarote.
Mayor Yonathan de León, directly responsible for the Department of Public Works, and the island councilor for Public Works, Jacobo Medina, detail the upcoming tender for the first phase of this work on an island road in the capital, where vehicles travel from the Muelle de los Mármoles area towards the industrial areas of Lloret, Altavista II industrial park, and the surroundings of Castillo de San José.
Following a request from the mayor and head of Public Works of the Arrecife City Council, Yonathan de León, the councilor of Public Works of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Jacobo Medina, promoted the drafting of this project, which is now finished.
The Arrecife City Council and the Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa have confirmed that the project for the execution of a new roundabout on the LZ-101 road is already in place, an action that will allow to improve connectivity between the industrial area, access to the capital and the surroundings of Castillo de San José, responding to a historical demand from the residents of Arrecife and the thousands of drivers who use this access daily. A work that will be executed in phases, and will be put out to tender soon.
Yonathan de León, together with the councilor of Public Works of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Jacobo Medina, have announced this important action, fruit of the institutional collaboration between both administrations to improve mobility in one of the main accesses to the island capital.
A few months ago, Mayor Yonathan de León conveyed to the Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa the need to act at this strategic point of the island road network, requesting the drafting of a project that would offer a definitive solution to the existing traffic problems. Attending to this request, the councilor of Public Works of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Jacobo Medina, promoted the drafting of the project, which is now finished and will allow to respond to a historical demand from the residents of Arrecife.
The mayor of Arrecife has underlined that “we had been demanding a solution for this access, where significant traffic jams occur every day, affecting both residents and those who access the capital for work, commercial, or leisure reasons. I want to thank the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and, especially, the counselor Jacobo Medina, for the sensitivity and speed with which he has attended to this request from the City Council”.
For his part, the counselor of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Jacobo Medina, pointed out that “with this project we take an important step to resolve one of the main traffic congestion points in the capital. The new roundabout will improve connectivity with the industrial area, facilitate access to Arrecife, and allow for safer and more fluid circulation for the thousands of drivers who use this road axis every day. We continue working to provide Lanzarote and La Graciosa with modern, safe infrastructures adapted to current needs”.
The new roundabout will allow a more efficient distribution of the different traffic movements between the LZ-101, the industrial area, and the accesses to Arrecife, eliminating current traffic conflicts, improving the intersection's capacity, and significantly reducing the daily traffic jams, especially during peak hours. This roundabout is contemplated in the planning for that area of the city of Arrecife.
With this action, the Arrecife City Council and the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa "continue to strengthen their institutional collaboration to promote strategic infrastructures that improve mobility, increase road safety, and respond to the present and future needs of the capital and the island".
