The Arrecife City Council has started the adaptation and legalization works of the new headquarters of the Local Police, after an investment of 375,000 euros, which will be located at number 3 Vargas street, a few meters from the current one.
The mayor, Astrid Pérez, accompanied by the councilor of the Local Police, Jacobo Lemes, and the councilor of Urbanism, Eduardo Placeres, visited this Thursday the works of what will be the new police station, and learned the details of the new building that will mean a "qualitative leap" in the modernization of the Local Police of the capital.
“We are fulfilling one of the most important commitments we made since we took over the municipal government, which is to provide the city with modern facilities so that our agents can fulfill their work in dignified conditions, even more so when we have recently expanded their number of troops and renewed the fleet of police vehicles,” said the mayor.
In this sense, Astrid Pérez considers that these facilities are "adequate for the present and designed to adapt to future changes." She also anticipates that the Local Police will have "optimal units and adapted to new technologies, which will pave the way for their incursion into the digital age and provide Arrecife with a security model like the one that already exists in large cities.”
For his part, the councilor of the Local Police, Jacobo Lemes, has praised “the enormous merit that the agents have had in sharing for years some units that are clearly insufficient for the needs of a city like Arrecife”, and highlights as fundamental aspects of the work “the elimination of the architectural barriers of the building and its strict submission to energy saving criteria.”
The adaptation works
The works, awarded to the company EMO, include the replacement of all the exterior wood carpentry with aluminum carpentry with double glazing, with the intention of improving the acoustic and thermal insulation of the building, in which a centralized air conditioning system with thermal recovery will also be installed to minimize energy losses.
Likewise, both the facade and the interior of the building will be painted, in which a panoramic elevator will be installed that can be accessed from the sidewalk, as well as the repair and varnishing of all the interior carpentry.
It also contemplates the demolition of all the partitions on the third floor, which will be completely open to future actions and equipped with electrical and telecommunications installations, as well as a fire protection system and the construction of an armory room with a security door and partitions reinforced with steel. In addition, items will be included to connect the new headquarters of the Local Police with the Consistory with fiber optics.
From the City Council they emphasize that, as a future project, the procedures are being initiated to provide the facilities with a space that serves for the training and improvement of the agents in the handling of firearms and with electronic control devices. "This would make it the only Local Police Station in Lanzarote that has a room of this type," they emphasize from the Consistory.
