The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has presided over the Christmas toast that the capital's City Council has offered to the entire staff of the institution, made up of more than 500 public employees. This toast, held on the afternoon of last Friday, December 15, took place in the Vías y Obras facilities. All the former mayors who are still alive, and the capital of Lanzarote has had during this democratic stage, attended this meeting.
Yonathan de León extended an invitation, which he made with personal calls, and on behalf of the entire Municipal Corporation, to all the former mayors that the city of Arrecife has had since 1979, with the first democratic municipal elections with the Spanish Constitution of 1978. The mayor extended this invitation to those who in this democratic past have been at the head of the Municipal Corporation of Arrecife when celebrating in this year 2023 the 225th anniversary of the foundation of the municipality of Arrecife.
De León Machín called his predecessors in office one by one to come to this toast, to which he also asked the deputy mayor, Echedey Eugenio, and the Councilor for Human Resources, Eli Merino, to join. Subsequently, the mayor requested the presence on the stage installed inside the ship of the entire Municipal Government Group, and all the councilors of the Municipal Corporation, who came to be in this toast with the staff for the celebration of Christmas.
In his speech, Yonathan de León stressed that "all those present here, as public officials, together with the work of all municipal employees, make it possible for Arrecife to be today a capital with solid urban, economic and social development, and that has a great future ahead of it."
After this act of recognition and congratulations, the mayor Yonathan de León, together with the deputy mayor Echedey Eugenio, and the Councilor for Human Resources, Eli Merino, presented recognition plaques to all the retired workers of the Arrecife City Council, and to several workers still active for their dedication to the city.
The mayor, on behalf of the entire Municipal Corporation, stressed that he wanted to unite the entire staff and the Municipal Corporation in this recognition of retirees, and where "we have had the honor of being accompanied by those who have been the first mayors of the city." "It is important to value all those who have worked and continue working for Arrecife," concluded Yonathan de León.
The former mayors of Arrecife Cándido Armas Rodríguez, Manuela Armas Rodríguez, Elizabeth de León Expósito, Manuel Fajardo Feo, José Montelongo Espinosa, Eva de Anta de Benito, and Astrid Pérez Batista, who was mayor during the past term, and the first month in this new period, to later access the presidency of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, attended this meeting.
The former mayor María Isabel Déniz excused, in a call to the mayor, her presence for being ill.
