The Department of Public Works of the Arrecife City Council has restarted in recent weeks the transformation works of the streets of the Tinasoria neighborhood, endowed with an investment of three million euros. The works were paralyzed in 2025 due to the repeated non-compliance of the previous works. The Arrecife City Council went to the Canary Islands Consultative Council to terminate that management contract and endorsed the decision adopted by the mayor Yonathan de León
Public institutions in Spain are subject to the Public Sector Contracts Law, and to terminate the contract of a professional, a procedure must be followed, subject to a series of deadlines and procedures. Once the final termination was achieved, the Arrecife City Council has resumed these works with a new site management.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, who is also directly responsible for the Public Works Area, has been in the Tinasoria neighborhood and has confirmed to the residents that in this upcoming autumn of 2026 all the work that will provide **accessibility to the sidewalks and streets of Tinasoria, in addition to the new rainwater and public lighting network** whose connections will be buried underground in the sidewalks, will be completed
In these last years, the streets of Tinasoria presented a very deficient public lighting among other reasons for the poles and connections being in common areas of the courtyards of many of the social housing units that originated this neighborhood.
Change the urban image of Tinasoria's streets with three million euros
The works in Tinasoria, endowed with an investment of three million euros, are part of a broad plan launched by Mayor Yonathan de León to modernize the image of this neighborhood, which in addition to accessible sidewalks, a rainwater network, and new connections for public lighting, includes the creation of shaded areas with the planting of trees, in whose tree pits the automatic irrigation network is being installed, plus the resurfacing of the streets
Not only is the City Council carrying out street transformation works, it is also finalizing the renovation of the Estrella Machín sports court, with a covering of its roof, which will allow training and sports activities at any time of the year, even with inclement weather. The parks and children's leisure areas were renovated last year, as part of a global project for the modernization of Arrecife's playgrounds
