The Department of Public Works of the Arrecife City Council is carrying out during these weeks different works to reconstruct the walls of the promenade that were damaged by the recent storms. The city's mayor, and direct head of the Public Works Department, Yonathan de León, has deployed several workers to repair these affected sections, which are located mainly between Punta del Camello, and the esplanade next to the parking lots known as La Bufona.
Lanzarote, like other islands of the Canary Archipelago, has registered this autumn, a high incidence of storms, where high waves have been very present in these episodes. And with those known as ‘southern storms’ the force of the waves has affected several sections of the promenade, whose perimeter wall is built by pieces of volcanic stone.
Yonathan de León has detailed that it has been necessary to wait until these weeks to repair these damaged walls as storms were frequent in these past months.
During the works, carried out directly by the Arrecife City Council, the area was cordoned off for safety and prevention. This promenade between El Reducto and El Cable is very frequented daily by residents on their healthy walks.
