The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, was on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero this Wednesday to explain, among other topics, the progress in housing matters in the capital.
De León announced that he has asked the Technical Office of the City Council "that in those undeveloped lands, an additional floor be allowed to be built for incentivized affordable rental housing". "We are already working on that ordinance and I hope it can be released soon because that would make private developers want to build incentivized affordable rental housing, and I believe it is important not only to have public housing, but that we can expedite the construction of housing privately," he revealed.
Thus, he also assured that "Arrecife has taken giant steps in housing matters" and recalled that the 201 homes in Maneje are being built, a project from the Canary Islands Housing Plan promoted during the previous term of the Government of the Canary Islands. "I hope they can be delivered in the first quarter," he pointed out.
"Two lots have been completed with a final certificate of work, but there is a third lot that is also part of that construction, which includes a communal garage for those three lots, and obviously, you cannot deliver two phases and leave the other, having to share areas that are under construction for safety reasons," he indicated.
Furthermore, he said that "even before the end of the year, they could start the evaluation process for the delivery of each of those homes." Likewise, he explained that he is aware that "there is a project for 256 homes also for the Maneje neighborhood."
On the other hand, the mayor pointed out that the Arrecife City Council has expedited the granting of licenses "for almost 350 private homes that are currently being built, plus another 80 licenses, and there will be many more that are now also in the process of being granted."
"On Triana street, cooperation was also given to the Cabildo de Lanzarote to build 46 homes, and I asked Visocan to draft the project for the 200 homes adjacent to those in Maneje," he pointed out. "Yesterday, Tuesday, I spoke with the manager, and he told me that they are awaiting an appeal filed by the second company to award the drafting of the project and construction management," he continued.
Lastly, he has emphasized the approval of the Arrecife Supplementary Plan, which he hopes will go to a plenary session at the end of this month of October. This Supplementary Plan "will allow the construction of 5,000 homes, of which 1,500 will be social housing and another 3,500 will be private".
