At the end of last March, several areas of the Arrecife coastline, as in other coastal municipalities of the Canary Islands, were severely affected by storm Therese. The force of the waves lifted, among the damaged areas, the pavement and broke a section of the breakwater and the wall in volcanic stone that borders the promenade, in the vicinity of Punta del Camello, near El Reducto beach.
In those days at the end of March, after the alerts for waves and wind on the island of Lanzarote were lifted by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, assigned several teams of municipal workers to recover the damaged pavement and the stone walls carved in volcanic stone, allowing their reuse in the reconstruction of the damaged coastal areas.
The effects of storm Therese caused, due to its southeast component, considerable damage in these promenade and maritime coastal areas of the capital of Lanzarote.
Yonathan de León, who directly manages the Department of Public Works, prioritized the rehabilitation of the areas damaged by the storm in the city's public spaces, and assigned several teams to repair the pavement and reconstruct the wall, reusing the existing paving stones and volcanic stone blocks in the area since its construction.
The municipal intervention concluded this week and, after about five weeks of work (including the Easter period), has allowed citizens to once again walk through this area of the city, frequently visited by residents who use it for a healthy lifestyle with long morning walks.
The integral renovation of the Theme Park awaits the concession from the Coastal Authority
The mayor of Arrecife has recalled that the City Council is awaiting the approval of the concession from the Coastal Authority (recently published in the BOP) and which was lost during the term of Eva de Antas, PSOE, as Mayor, for an important project to transform the entire Theme Park. It will be converted into a large green lung, with new sports areas and leisure areas.
A project that will bring a great change to this area of Arrecife, as part of the modernization of the city's urban image promoted during this term.
