The Cleaning Department of the Arrecife City Council has initiated a total of 122 sanctioning files for infractions of the Municipal Cleaning Ordinance during the first four months of the year. These actions are part of the City Council's effort to eradicate uncontrolled waste dumping in the municipality.
The files mainly refer to the illegal abandonment of belongings such as furniture, mattresses, appliances and rubble, among other bulky waste. Of these, 105 have been initiated thanks to the recordings captured by the video surveillance cameras installed in strategic points of the city, while 17 are derived from complaints filed by residents.
Councilor Jacobo Lemes has stressed the importance of joint work between administration and citizens and appreciates the collaboration of all residents who have contributed by alerting about these uncivil behaviors.
Of the total number of files, 59 correspond to infractions committed by companies, while 63 have been directed against individuals, whether or not they are residents of the municipality.
The Cleaning Department reminds that the City Council offers a free service for collecting belongings at home, in addition to having clean points where waste can be deposited correctly and legally.
“Throwing a mattress or furniture on public roads not only damages the image of our city, but it is an infraction that can lead to sanctions. We have free services to avoid these behaviors and we ask citizens to use them,” added Lemes.
The councilor assures that control and sanction measures will continue to be reinforced to guarantee compliance with the regulations and keep Arrecife clean and cared for.
