The city of Arrecife, with the call of the City Council of the capital of Lanzarote, has shown this Wednesday its support, solidarity, and condolences to the families affected by the tragic railway accident with the collision of two high-speed trains in the province of Toledo.
Under the call of the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, who joined the national appeal made by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), the doors of the Arrecife City Hall hosted today at 7 p.m. the silent event where a respectful minute of silence was observed in memory of the deceased and in support of the injured and their families.
Alongside the mayor of Arrecife, accompanied by representatives of the Municipal Corporation, was a neighborhood representation that attended this call from the City Council and the FEMP.
Yonathan de León, at the end of this moment, attended the media and stressed that the city of Arrecife, the City Council, the Civil Protection Unit, and the Local Police, offer their services, with personnel and equipment, to assist in the rescue and identification of victims. The Local Police stands out in the Canary Islands for having one of the most specialized Drone Units, and the Documentoscopy Unit (UDOC) team, which could be of great help for the identification tasks of victims and the injured.
Next to the mayor was the councilor for Security and Emergencies, Kevin Cortés, who conveyed this offer for coordination with FECAM, the Canary Islands Federation of Municipalities, in case teams were required from the Canary Islands Archipelago.
In the minute of silence held at 7 p.m. next to the central building of the Arrecife City Hall, Mayor Yonathan de León was accompanied by the spokespersons of the political forces present in the Municipal Corporation, councilors from the Government and opposition groups, as well as the vice-president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, María Jesús Tovar, and the vice-president of the National Migration Commission of the FEMP, the councilor of the island council Jacobo Medina.
Yonathan de León, mayor of the capital of Lanzarote, conveyed his condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased, and highlighted the extraordinary coordination and dedication of the emergency services working in the area, to which special teams contributed by the Autonomous Communities near Castilla y La Mancha have joined.
