This project will be linked to La Recova, which the City Council is finalizing to allow its reopening as a supply market

El Ayuntamiento de Arrecife recibe el proyecto para rehabilitar La Pescadería, que permitirá licitar las obras en este semestredd

The Arrecife City Council will rehabilitate the fish market and form a tandem with La Recova as a food market and gastronomic area within a project launched in this term by the Municipal Government to recover the commercial life that these properties had in past decades.

The mayor, Yonathan de León, has informed that the City Council has received the technical project for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Municipal Fish Market building, which will allow its recovery with a modern approach for the commercialization of seafood products, in addition to preparation and tasting as a gastronomic zone.

This project, which will form a tandem with La Recova, is directed by the Department of Commerce and Tourism of the capital city's City Council, under the coordination of the PP spokesperson councillor, Eli Merino.

The City Council already announced, recalls the mayor, that the project of La Recova is being finalized and will allow its reopening as a food market in addition to a gastronomic area and wine bar. In parallel, this historic space of the city will make its new uses compatible for the commercialization of agricultural products, with the development of events that continue with the city's revitalization line.

Rehabilitation of Arrecife's historic center for its relaunch

The mayor has detailed that the upcoming tenders for the works for the re-openings of La Recova, plus the conditioning of the La Pescadería building, is part of a plan launched at the beginning of this term, in the summer of 2023, so that the historic center of the city, in the surroundings of the San Ginés church, would have more life and projection.

Concluded the comprehensive rehabilitation of Las Palmas square, works finished last autumn, the exterior conditioning of the facades of the parish hall and parish library will soon be joined, which already have a license and will be executed by the Diocese of Canarias, and during this semester the execution of the La Recova and La Pescadería projects will be put out to tender.

Arrecife, epicenter of commerce, leisure, and gastronomy

The Councillor for Commerce and Tourism, Eli Merino, has remarked that both the rehabilitation of La Recova and the Municipal Fish Market already have the mandatory approvals from Heritage, and the City Council is working on these tenders which will allow the recovery of both properties for which they were designed from their origins: sales points for agricultural and fishing products from Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

Eli Merino has emphasized that, with the new design, "it will be possible to revitalize these enclaves for the commercialization, elaboration, and tasting of products from the land and sea, supporting these commercial sectors of Lanzarote. Arrecife will have a renewed circuit near the sea, and in a privileged enclave of the city's history, for the commercialization and consumption of KM0 products".

In addition to these important projects, with financial sheet, the City Council continues with more transformation actions of the Open Commercial Zone of Arrecife with a series of works that will be made known soon by the mayor and the councilwoman of Commerce and Tourism.

The uniqueness of this Open Commercial Zone of Arrecife, a few steps from Las Palmas square, La Recova and La Pescadería, in a neuralgic axis with the upcoming Charco de San Ginés- where a solid gastronomic offer already exists, lies in being one of the most visited places by residents, and tourists, among them, the more than 650,000 cruise passengers received by the port of Arrecife, and whose calls are concentrated between the months of September and April, in what is known as the autumn and winter season.

This high presence of tourists, plus the resident population, provide a high volume of potential clients to the commercial, leisure, and catering establishments that operate in Arrecife.
