The Councillor for Cleaning of the Arrecife City Council, Jacobo Lemes, and the Deputy Mayor and Head of Contracting, Echedey Eugenio, held a key meeting this morning with representatives of the Urbaser workers, the company awarded the street cleaning and waste collection service, the UGT union, and technical managers from Gesplan, the public company in charge of preparing the technical report and the ordinance for the future management of the service.
This meeting represents a decisive step in the transformation process promoted by the Arrecife City Council to improve the quality and adaptation of the city's cleaning system. The session has focused, especially, on the desire for the new model to have, for the first time, the active participation of the service's workers, whose contributions and experience will be fundamental when defining working conditions, resources, itineraries, shifts and equipment.
"We want to ensure that the voices of those who are on the streets every day are part of the design of the new service. Their experience is essential to build a more effective, modern and dignified model, both for the city and for the staff," emphasizes Jacobo Lemes, who highlighted that "The Arrecife City Council will continue to lead this process from responsibility, listening to the parties and always prioritizing the improvement of working conditions and the quality of service for our neighbors."
For his part, the Deputy Mayor, Echedey Eugenio, responsible for Contracting, highlighted the "importance of institutional coordination and the contribution of the public company Gesplan."
"Having a technical report and an updated ordinance, prepared by an objective entity such as Gesplan, allows us to rigorously plan what services Arrecife really needs and how they should be provided. In addition, this technical work will be the basis for future management to be transparent and efficient, agreed upon with the workers and supervised from the public sector," he said.
Both leaders have emphasized that "the goal of this new stage is to guarantee both the excellence of the service and the dignity and recognition of the workers, adding to the municipal management the voice and experience of all those involved."
