Arrecife installs an anti-flood gate at CEIP La Destila

The Department of Education of the Arrecife City Council has completed the installation of an anti-flood barrier at CEIP La Destila, a measure long demanded by the school and intended to definitively resolve the serious problems of water entry that the school suffered whenever there were episodes of intense rain.

The Councilor for Education, Abigail González, has stressed that this is a "very necessary and very urgent" action, which the municipal area attended to with priority after verifying the school's vulnerability. According to her explanation, La Destila is the center that suffers these incidents the most, with particularly serious floods in the basement area, where on recent occasions the water even reached above knee height.

“From the Department, we are listening to and attending to the needs of the schools in Arrecife. In the case of La Destila, the situation was especially delicate and required an immediate technical solution. That is why this anti-flood gate has been installed, manufactured specifically for this space, with the aim of protecting the center and providing peace of mind to the management team, teachers, students, and families,” states Abigail González.

The intervention consisted of the installation of a large-format anti-flood closure system, designed to prevent water from entering the affected access and reinforce the security of the facilities. It is a specific technical solution, commissioned from a specialized company and manufactured outside of Spain due to the non-existence of this model on the market.

With this action, the Department of Education continues to work on the maintenance and improvement of the municipality's educational centers, responding to specific problems reported by school administrations and prioritizing those incidents that directly affect the normal functioning of classrooms and the safety of students and staff.
