The Equo councilor in Arrecife, Esther Gómez, has been named new co-spokesperson of the party at the regional level, after the assembly held by the party on July 30. Along with her will be, with the same position, Paco Vaquero.
Esther Gómez says that “the current situation in the archipelago requires an innovative political space, both in proposals and in structuring and operation.”
“That is why we are going to continue our so-called Green Route that we started in Lanzarote throughout the archipelago. We are going to continue meeting with social groups and political actors to explore the possibilities that this new green space may have in view of a possible broad candidacy,” adds Gómez.
In said meeting, the environmentalist formation also approved its political strategy for the regional and municipal elections of 2023, with the intention of forming “a clearly green space in the islands with a political cooperative structure”, according to comments from the party.
From the formation they also announce that they have initiated the incorporation of Los Verdes de Canarias into the structure of Verdes Equo Canarias, in what they have described as “the first step to configure their cooperative space.”
“What is germinating is a new project of society for the islands, and that in other places in Europe, such as Belgium or Germany, where Los Verdes govern, has been essential to direct policies towards the protection of people and the environment in an increasingly unpredictable and damaged world. Social and climate justice are the axes on which we want to promote the changes that are so necessary in the Canary Islands,” says the co-spokesperson, Paco Vaquero, for his part.
At the same time, the party indicates that it intends to launch a message of “hope.” “It is clear that the Canary Islands needs a strong green alternative that responds to the problems we face and will face as a consequence of this climate crisis that worsens every year,” they say from the party.
“We want to promote that alternative with generosity and cooperation, and in that sense the next months are going to be very intense, but also exciting,” the party expresses in a note.
