The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has announced on his Facebook profile the signing of the purchase of the Harinera Lanzarote building for a value of three million euros with the aim of turning it into a cultural center. The mayor wanted to coincide the signing of the purchase with a significant date for the City Council of the capital, "such as today, December 27, 1798 by vote, the first mayor and his councilors were elected, and the municipality of Arrecife was born".
"Throughout this 2024 we have been commemorating the 225th anniversary of the founding of Arrecife, and today, on this symbolic day, I have signed before a notary the acquisition of this great building - linked to the history of Arrecife - where the new cultural reference of Arrecife will be opened".
According to de León, "the building has almost 2,000 m2 of surface area, has huge rooms, with new multipurpose uses, and has four floors high, plus a large terrace on its roof, and an interior patio".
As La Voz published, this Thursday the acquisition by the City Council of the capital of this building that opened its doors in 1955 but closed in 2020 was known. The function of the flour mill was the commercialization of milling products for distribution within Lanzarote.
"Here we will open, during this term, a new Cultural Center dedicated to folklore, our Canarian culture, music, dance, exhibitions, the performing arts and music, among other uses," the mayor declared on his social network profile.
