The Arrecife City Council Plenary has definitively approved this Thursday the modification of the municipal regulation of the public taxi service. The Councilor for Transportation and Mobility, Inodelvia Torres, highlights as a novelty "the expansion of the number of places, advertising, the conditions for the renewal of the driving license and the organization of shifts in the port of Los Mármoles, which were agreed with the taxi sector".
Another novelty is the renewal of the permit, which will not require the repetition of the exam for those drivers who have been out of service for five years or more.
Regarding the organization of shifts in the port of Los Mármoles, it aims to "provide a solution to the lack of taxis when cruise ships come to the island, and provide an optimal service in the city." According to the City Council, the licenses authorized in each of the services to the Port may park in the linked stops, from one hour before the scheduled arrival of the cruise ship, not before.
In case of non-compliance, they may be sanctioned. To this effect, the Arrecife City Council, together with the assignment of the date and service shifts to the Port, will define the schedule.
Regarding the uniformity of taxi drivers, if the use of shorts is authorized, these "must be dress shorts, and in no case jeans".
