Arrecife accuses the Cabildo of "blocking" the rehabilitation of the José Ramírez Cerdá Park fountain

The City Council affirms that this situation extends to "any action regarding Heritage that is intended to be undertaken in the capital."

The Arrecife City Council has denounced the Lanzarote Cabildo's "blockade" of the rehabilitation of the José Ramírez Cerdá Park fountain, and maintains that this situation extends to "any action regarding Heritage that is intended to be undertaken in the capital."

Regarding the fountain, they explain that the City Council presented a proposal in March 2021 to "repair it and put it into operation," since it has been in "a rather deficient situation in terms of its conservation" for years, according to what "the Cabildo itself" acknowledges.

The City Council points out that, almost a year after submitting that proposal, the Cabildo's Heritage Councilor, Ariagona González, has resolved "not to authorize" the rehabilitation works, according to the resolution signed this Monday. "Without providing joint solutions between both administrations so that this unique space can return to optimal conditions," questions the Councilor for Roads and Works, Roberto Herbón.

The Arrecife City Council emphasizes that, since Astrid Pérez's entry into the Arrecife Mayor's Office, "a huge effort has been made, as never before in decades, to promote and enhance the restoration of Arrecife's architectural heritage." "Despite the obstacles that the Lanzarote Cabildo has continually placed in the way," says Herbón.

The City Council understands that "urgent" actions regarding the conservation and restoration of Arrecife's Heritage are "eternized in time" and suffer "a blockade" by the Cabildo. They further detail that this already happened "when authorizing the cleaning of the Puente de las Bolas," or "the project for the restoration of the Plaza de Las Palmas in front of the Church of San Ginés."
