The Cabildo of Lanzarote has announced that the Argana Alta neighborhood now has the social and sports center in operation. The Insular Cabildo organized last Wednesday the closing day of the 'Escucha Social Arrecife' project, which aims to "promote social inclusion" in the capital.
The vice president and councilor of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, together with the mayor and head of Works, Yonathan de León, visited the event that took place in the morning at the premises and the adjoining square of the Argana Alta Pavilion.
“We have recently completed the works on the premises and we want this type of action to continue promoting social progress in neighborhoods and areas of Arrecife and throughout the Island,” highlights the vice president, who remarks that this intervention is the result “of the collaboration between the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the beneficiaries of the Edusi Lanzarote strategy”.
“For me it is a pride, as vice president and head of Works and the area of Planning and Projects, that a neighborhood in need of investment such as Argana Alta has benefited from this strategy, thus having a point for participation and meeting of citizens,” added Medina.
Yonathan de León highlighted that "having these community use and sports management facilities" in Argana Alta "will allow us to bring public services closer to the largest neighborhood by population in Arrecife and all of Lanzarote".
“As mayor of the city, I am pleased that this center is a reality in this year where we commemorate the '225th anniversary' of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife. From now on, this center will join many other investments that we have planned to undertake in 2024 from the city council. Connecting and giving life to the neighborhoods is among my priorities as mayor,” added de León.
The day included crafts, DJ and Virtual Reality workshops, as well as a performance by the magician 'Artem', storytelling by Fidel Galván and the clown show 'Mario Bros', among other actions.
This project is part of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy 'Conurban Azul', co-financed by 85% by the European Regional Development Fund through the Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain ERDF 2014-2020.
Completion of the EDUSI strategy
The Edusi Lanzarote strategy, from which the municipalities of San Bartolomé, Teguise and Arrecife have benefited, ends on December 31 of this year, after the investment of different projects such as the 'Lanzarote Bike Path', the 'Rehabilitation of the Heritage of Teguise', or the eco-dining rooms in the municipalities of Teguise and San Bartolomé.
“Unfortunately, we have to point out that a large part of the money that was granted to us by the 'Regional Development Funds', which amounts to more than 3.5 million euros, we have to return it given the neglect of the last months of the previous government in executing the projects,” concludes Medina.
