The Plenary Session of the Cabildo of Lanzarote approved, in the ordinary session held this Thursday, the nomination of subsidies to the Municipalities of Arrecife and Haría corresponding to the Municipal Cooperation Plan of 2026.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that these plans have become "a fundamental tool for financing improvement actions in seven municipalities on the island and from the Cabildo we will maintain the support and collaboration that we have with all the town councils in order to reinforce the effectiveness of local investments".
For her part, the vice-president and minister of Finance and Planning and Projects, Maria Tovar, wanted to highlight the effort that the area is making to "optimize public investment and so that the town councils can execute the actions they have decided to plan and execute within the established deadlines". "The Cabildo's position has always been and will continue to be one of total willingness and we trust that the 6.3 million euros allocated this year to the Cooperation Plans can be executed in their entirety and translated into improvements for the citizens".
According to the percentages of municipal participation in the resources derived from the REF and the population criterion, Arrecife has a subsidy for this year of 2,465,539.21 euros for the urban redevelopment of the Los Geranios-LZ3 roundabout, the improvement of outdoor lighting energy efficiency at Playa del Cable and La Bufona, and the provision of three electric vehicles for the Public Works area.
For its part, the Haría City Council will have 299,865.24 euros directed to the paving of Peña Redonda and Roque del Oeste streets, the improvement of the accessibility of the Órzola promenade, the installation of a pedestrian walkway in Barranco La Negra, and the acquisition of a side-loading garbage collection truck.
The nomination to both municipalities occurs in parallel to the regularization processes of pending files from different years that were not duly justified. In this regard, and to date, the Arrecife City Council has pending the reimbursement of 6,332,480.85 euros, as well as 393,150.95 euros in late payment interest. Likewise, the capital city council will have until the first fortnight of July to justify another 2,694,325 euros from the 2024 accessibility improvement plan.
Of the total funds received by Arrecife since 2020, amounting to 18,608,750.97, the City Council has executed approximately 6.6 million euros, 35.94% of the total.
Regarding the City Council of Haría, this corporation made a voluntary refund of 964,191 euros, with 6,599 euros pending for late payment interest. The execution rate for this municipality was 56.33% of the total funds received.
As explained by the councilor during the debate, the balance of pending refunds is completed with 463.66 euros for late payment interest from the Teguise City Council and 12,486.32 euros from Tinajo for the same concept. The rest of the local corporations have already completed their regulatory files.
