The Cabildo of Lanzarote has launched a new employment plan in the municipality of Teguise that will allow the hiring of 15 unemployed people for six months, full-time, within the framework of the Municipal Employment Plan 2025-2026.

The initiative is articulated through the financing of the project Actions + Works in Teguise 2025, promoted by the Teguise City Council, with an island subsidy of 195,423.99 euros. The program is developed through a collaboration agreement signed between both administrations.

The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, explains that this type of plan "allows for direct intervention in unemployment, generating job opportunities in the municipalities and facilitating people to acquire professional experience in real work environments." Likewise, he points out that “collaboration with the city councils allows these actions to be adjusted to their specific needs.”

For his part, the Minister of Employment, Jesús Machín, details that “the program incorporates diverse profiles linked to works, maintenance and administrative support, which allows improving the employability of the participating people in sectors with demand.” Furthermore, he indicates that “the duration of the contracts facilitates sufficient work experience to consolidate access to future opportunities.”

Likewise, the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, declares that “this program allows us to respond to the specific needs of the municipality, incorporating professional profiles that contribute to the maintenance and improvement of public spaces.” Duque states that “these hirings allow us to reinforce municipal services and generate new job opportunities in Teguise.”

The planned hirings include two first-class bricklayers, two construction laborers, two second-class painters, eight cleaning laborers, and one administrative assistant. These additions will allow for the development of improvement and maintenance actions in the municipality, while public services are strengthened.

Job placement linked to municipal activity

The program combines direct hiring with guidance and labor intermediation actions, aimed at improving the professional skills of the participating individuals and facilitating their continuity in the labor market once the hiring period has ended. The program also includes training in digital skills for employment, motivation and personal development, and language training with a basic English course.

Furthermore, the execution of the project contributes to boosting local economic activity and to detecting areas with potential for job creation, aligning public investment with concrete results in job placement.

It should be noted that the rest of the island's town councils have also received subsidies within the framework of the Municipal Employment Plan 2025-2026, calculated based on objective criteria such as population and the number of unemployed people in each municipality, which allows for a balanced distribution of resources and an intervention adjusted to the reality of each territory.
