"Revolutionary tax Sergio Machín, Minister of Public Works [in the Island Council of Lanzarote]". This message revealed by the newspaper El Mundo is part of the summary of Operation Enredadera, in which the Lanzarote councilor was arrested by order of the Seville judge Mercedes Alaya.
The email, according to this newspaper, was sent on October 26, 2004 by the Fitonovo delegate in the Canary Islands, Adolfo de la Torre, to another company executive, Macedo Gajete. And according to the UCO reports, it would confirm the alleged collection of bribes in exchange for the award of public contracts.
According to El Mundo, the UCO agents of the Civil Guard would have collected evidence that would prove that Fitonovo paid "bribes" between 1995 and 2013 for an amount exceeding 3.3 million euros, to officials and public officials of at least 13 different administrations, both in the Canary Islands and, above all, in Andalusia and Extremadura.
Free on charges
Sergio Machín, who is currently still the spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, was arrested on November 11. After testifying at the Costa Teguise barracks before the UCO agents, Machín was released on charges.
Days later he had to travel to Seville, attending the summons of Judge Alaya, who charged him with an alleged crime of bribery. The contracts for which Machín is being investigated were awarded when he was in charge of the Public Works area of the Cabildo.
