The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, was this past Tuesday on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote of Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero where he discussed different topics related to the management of the City Council and where he announced the existence of several rulings regarding the demolition of heritage properties of the city.

According to de León, there are two licenses: one in the vicinity of La Plazuela, in the old Civil Guard barracks building and another located on Cabo Juby street with Rubicón street. He also pointed out one more license, although he did not specify the area where the property is located.

"They are sentences from the Court and we have to carry them out effectively", which would mean the demolition of these buildings due to an administrative silence of several years like the one that occurred with the property on Luis Morote street. However, the mayor announced that from the City Council "we are going to grant the license as the judge says and what we will do is tender for six-month precautionary measures for the Cabildo to endorse it and for them to have the six months".

De León pointed out that all these properties "are within Gesplan's files, it is not a catalog that is initially approved, but of which we have knowledge through the environmental report".

Furthermore, the mayor focused on the enormous bureaucracy that exists and affects those who buy properties like these. "It's a shame that there are owners who invest their money in being able to acquire a property like this and want to rehabilitate it, but that you often encounter so many obstacles... I hope that little by little the rehabilitation of heritage will be allowed, not only in Arrecife, but throughout Lanzarote," he concluded.
