This Thursday, the meeting between the Spanish Association of Civil Guards (AEGC), represented by the coordinator in the Canary Islands, José Cobo Garca, and the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, took place to address issues related to citizen security.
During the meeting, the needs and possible improvements in security and services by the Civil Guards were discussed, with topics such as the possibility of a permanent Civil Guard post in La Graciosa, the services at the Lanzarote airport, and the problems with the care of prisoners at the José Molina Orosa Hospital.
Also, the problems with the Integrated External Surveillance Service (SIVE) and immigration, as well as the "mismatch" in the Civil Guard staff without taking into account the floating population.
The association has conveyed to Betancort that "with the current replacement rate set at 1.15, it will take 10 years to reach the staff level of 2009." According to the coordinator, "the president of the Island Council was attentive and collaborative in presenting requests and requirements, both at the regional and national levels, regarding the safety of the people of Lanzarote."
In addition, both representatives have agreed to establish new meetings for further issues.
