Rescuers have found the lifeless body of Carlos Javier Murgas Hernández, the Venezuelan resident in Lanzarote who had been missing for six days after his building collapsed following the two earthquakes in Venezuela. This was confirmed by his family to La Voz this Tuesday.

Murgas's body was found this Monday, after days of intensive searching and amidst great anguish for his family.

The search efforts were complicated, and continue to be so, due to the lack of machinery to remove the heavy debris from the building. The lack of resources is indeed one of the main problems in the country after the impact of the two earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale.

Carlos Javier Murgas, who had been living in Lanzarote for almost twenty years with his family, was visiting Venezuela at the time of the earthquakes. His building, located in Caraballeda, in the state of La Guaira, collapsed.

The Government of Venezuela has reported that the death toll so far is 1,719, while the number of injured is 5,034. Among the deceased are 18 Spaniards, two of them from the Canary Islands.
