About twenty projects developed by associations, companies and institutions from Lanzarote for the Biosphere Reserve will aspire to obtain 'Next Generation' funds -belonging to the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan- in order to be launched.
These proposals "are aimed at promoting decarbonization and the circular economy, the restoration of spaces, land stewardship, community gardens, marine environment research and biodiversity conservation", explained the Minister of the Environment of the Cabildo of Lanzarote -an entity that has endorsed the twenty projects- and of the Biosphere Reserve of Lanzarote, Jorge Peñas.
Peñas also pointed out that "more than 16 entities will be eligible for the subsidy".
Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve, among the candidates
Beyond this, the Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve has submitted to this same call the project "Elaboration of the Strategic Plan of the Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda", which is part of the line of action dedicated to improving governance in Biosphere Reserves.
Among the objectives of this initiative is the diagnosis of the current situation of Lanzarote as well as the national and international trends that affect the development of the island, the identification of models of policies and sustainable economic development and the analysis of good practices that provide the island of Lanzarote with an updated Strategic Plan aligned with the SDGs, as required by Law 42/2007 to all Biosphere Reserves.
The total amount for this call launched by the Government of the Canary Islands, through its Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning, is 5,593,623 euros for all Biosphere Reserves.
In this way, 40% of the total eligible costs will be allocated to business and professional associations, self-employed workers, SMEs and companies, a percentage that may be increased by 10, 15 or 20 percentage points; and 100% will be allocated to the rest of the beneficiary entities.
